TOOLS I’M USING TO CREATE THIS ORNAMENT HAND-LETTERED HOLIDAY CARD
- Black Cardstock
- Angle and circle maker or an round object to help you sketch a circle.
- Silver Paint Pen Extra Fine. I got my paint pens at Michaels Store, but these are smiliar from Amazon.
- Gold Paint Pen Extra Fine
- OPTIONAL: White Mechanical Fabric Pencil. I love this pen becuase it’s easier to erase on dark surfaces, but you can use a regular pencil as well.
ORNAMENT HAND-LETTERED HOLIDAY CARD STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL
STEP 1: SKETCH A CIRCLE THE BOTTOM PART OF THE CARD
I used black cardstock and cut a 10x 7-inch rectangle. Then folded in half to make a 5×7-inch card.
Once you have the size of card you’d like to make, sketch a circle towards the bottom part of your card using the angle and circle maker or a round object.
I love this gadget to help me make circles or several sizes. This angle and circle maker is very inexpensive and comes in very handy for any hand-lettered project.
PRO TIP:
This is optional but recommended – use a white fabric mechanical pencil to sketch on dark cardstock like this one.
STEP 2: SKETCH YOUR QUOTE INSIDE THE CIRCLE.
I chose to write the Christmas quote “Merry Everything, Happy Always” inside the ornament. I’ll be doing monoline lettering, you can do faux calligraphy as well if you prefer.
STEP 3: INK YOUR LETTERING QUOTE
Using the silver extra fine paint pen, ink the lettering quote you sketched inside the circle. I really love this metallic paint pen because it makes a beautiful contrast with the black cardstock.
Make sure you let the paint dry before erasing the sketch marks of the white pencil.
STEP 4: FINISH DRAWING THE ORNAMENT AND ADD DOODLES
Now it’s time to add some doodles and embellishments around the quote using the gold paint pen. The combination of these gold and silver pens against the black cardstock is so beautiful.
Once you’re done adding the doodles, and embellishments, it’s time to finish the ornament, by adding a top part where the bow will be attached from, like the picture below.
Tada! You’re done and created a gorgeous Ornament Holiday Hand-Lettered Card!
