POSITIVE VIBES LETTERING CHALLENGE JULY + FREE PRINTABLE
Last month, I started co-hosting the #LetteringPositiveVibes Challenge over on Instagram. When I first started learning calligraphy, lettering challenges helped me a lot to stay on top of my practice. They provide quotes and phrases to help you practice. Before I started doing challenges, I used to spend too much time thinking of what to write.
Completing any type of challenge is always great because it pushes you to do something you’ve never done before. Lettering challenges are no exception! Most lettering challenges run from month to month, to encourage you to participate and practice your lettering every day.
In case you’ve never heard of a lettering challenge before, I go over everything you need to know in this blog post.
Why should you participate in a lettering challenge?
Practicing is the way to go to improve your lettering. There is no magic pen or calligraphy tool that will help you get better. One of the biggest questions, when you are trying to practice, is what to letter? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve starred at a blank piece of paper for too long and nothing comes to mind. Having a prompt ready makes it much easier to start practicing. If you’re a busy person, like most, you need to optimize the time you get to practice. Knowing what to write takes the guessing game off you practicing time.
The goal of a lettering challenge is for you to participate all month or as much as you can so you can practice continuously. Another important aspect of why you should participate in a lettering challenge is accountability. I encourage you to post your work on Instagram or even Facebook.
Practicing lettering is all about progress, not perfection. Don’t be afraid of posting your work and sharing your talent with the world. What I love the most about the lettering community on Instagram is their support. I’ve been great friends on Instagram after I’ve joined lettering challenges.
The Lettering Positive Vibes Challenge

I teamed up with two amazing letters Angélica @letters_by_gigi (She created the image above) and Diana @tiendacoloresdelcielo to bring you the Lettering Positive Vibes. We started the challenge last month. Each month we’ll gather inspirational quotes and put them together for you. We hope to help you practice while keeping you motivated in this calligraphy journey.
The idea is to spread positive vibes at the same time we practice and learn together.
Another thing that I love about Lettering Positive Vibes Challenge is that it has positive quotes and words both in English and Spanish. This will not only help you practice your lettering but also learn a new language along the way!
You can save the image below on the challenge’s Instagram account @LetteringPositiveVibes so you can reference it there or download the PDF from my resource library.
How to Participate in The Lettering Positive Vibes Challenge?
- Get the monthly list of prompts. We’ll be posting the monthly prompts at the beginning of the month. We’ll post them on Instagram here, and I will also be sharing them here on the blog along with a FREE printable PDF. Feel free to repost the monthly prompt image to let others know you’ll be joining.
- Letter the quote of the day. We encourage you to set aside at least 30 mins every day to practice your lettering. Every day there will be a prompt so you can choose to create a lettering piece using the full quote. Or you can also get creative, pick a word that stands out and use it to practice. The challenge is called inspired calligraphy, but you are welcome to use any lettering style or form of art you want.
- Share your work. Every time you participate, make sure you share your work on Instagram. Use the hashtag #LetteringPositiveVibes and tag @LetteringPositiveVibes, @vialdesigns, @letters_by_gigi, and @tiendacoloresdelcielo so we can see your work. Each day we will be featuring our favorite pieces on our Instagram page and stories. This will help you get more exposure to this fantastic lettering community and let others see your work.
Last year, I hosted a lettering challenge called #InspiredCalligraphyChallenge. It was also gathered towards helping you practice with inspirational quotes. I organized it for 3 months, and I wished I’ve have continued, but life got on the way. If you want to check all the prompts for this challenge, check these blog posts or head to the resource library to get the printable version of them.
REMEMBER
This lettering challenge is NOT about perfection! This challenge is about practicing and having fun while doing it.
Need some ideas to get started with lettering the quotes? Search Pinterest to get some inspiration. Better yet look outside or around you. Make sure to use what you see for motivation, and not to copy someone else’s work. This challenge is to help you create your own work and share with others.
