- Even though this is a tutorial for beginners, make sure you have mastered regular lettering or modern calligraphy.
- You need to understand the basics of modern calligraphy, the thick downstrokes and the thin upstrokes.ย
- You want to make sure you have developed the muscle memory to create each letter of the alphabet to add the playfulness of bounce lettering.ย

Step-by-Step Bounce Lettering Tutorial
Step 1: Choose a word or phrase to bounce.
Decide which word or phrase you want to create in bounce lettering. Start with shorter words or phrases when you’re beginning.
Step 2: Make sure you have a baseline.
Draw a light horizontal line as a baseline for your letters. This will help you maintain consistency in the overall alignment of your letters.ย
These are the guidelines you should have when doing bounce lettering:
Step 3 Bounce the letters:
Decide which and how you’ll be bouncing the letters. The letters will either โbounceโ above or dip below the baseline.ย
PRO TIPS TO GET THE BEST BOUNCE LETTERING EVERY TIME:
- Make the loops of your letters nice and big.
- The vowel letters, as well as the body part of the letters, should stay smaller.ย
- The downstrokes should be nice and long.
- Exaggerate the downstrokes of the tail letters and add flourishes to make your bounce lettering pop.
