Using your calligraphy and lettering skills to make DIY cards for special occasions is super rewarding, isn’t it?
It’s one of the main reasons I love practicing and continue to learn calligraphy. I love all the ways that you can incorporate calligraphy into everyday life!
If you need some inspiration on how to use your calligraphy to create Father’s day card, here are a couple I’ve created before.
Since practicing new words is a great way to improve your lettering and calligraphy, I want to help you do just that! That’s why I created this Father’s Day Free Hand Lettering Worksheet you can use to get your practice going.
And you’ll even learn some Spanish while you practice because I did the Spanish version in the same worksheet!

SUPPLIES I RECOMMEND FOR THIS FREE LETTERING WORKSHEET
First, I’d like to discuss the tools you’ll need to put these worksheets to good use. I want to make sure you have the right tools, so you’re successful with your practice and avoid some frustration.
- Paper: If you’re using brush pens, be sure to print your lettering worksheet using smooth paper like the HP Premium 32lb paper, which is excellent for your brush pens. Or you can also use tracing paper and put it on to of your worksheet to practice. This way, you only need to print the sheet once and still practice several times.
- Monoline pen: The Faux Calligraphy part of the worksheet can be done with any regular pen. My new favorite monoline pens are the Pigeon Letters Monoline Studio Pens.
- Brush Pen (Small Tip): The second part of the worksheet is for small brush pens. I designed this worksheet with the Tombow Fudenosuke Hard Tip in mind because it’s one of the pens I recommend for beginners. The Tombow Fudenosuke also comes in a soft tip and colors, which gives you have different options. Another great small tip brush pens you can use are the Pentel Fude Brush Pens.

HOW TO USE THIS FREE FATHER’S DAY HAND LETTERING WORKSHEET?
- Fill out the form at the bottom of this post or go to my free resource library if you already have the password to get in. Once you’re there, select the practice sheet you’d like to download. For this tutorial select the: Happy Father’s Day Hand Lettering Worksheet.
- The worksheet is an instant download. You can print it at home or at a local printer store or library. I use this laser printer. (This printer is black and white. But it was cheap, and it’s all you need at the moment to print the practice sheets). If you prefer a color printer, this is another inexpensive option

- Once you’re ready to print, set your printer scaling to “Fit Page.”

CALLIGRAPHY PRACTICE TIPS
As you’re using this calligraphy practice worksheet, keep in mind the tips below. These tips will make you make the most out of your practice.
- SUPER IMPORTANT: Slow down! Take your time when you’re practicing your calligraphy. Doing calligraphy is not meant to be fast. Going slow will help you get better letterforms and sharper strokes.
- Date your worksheets! This is a great way to see your improvement. Refer back to your older sheets often. Especially when you start to get into the comparison trap or when you think you haven’t improved in your calligraphy journey. We are our worst critics! And often forget to give us grace and celebrate our accomplishments, no matter how small they are.
- REMEMBER: Use light pressure for the upstrokes (when you’re moving the pen upwards) and heavy pressure for the downstrokes (when you’re moving the pen upwards).
- Find a comfortable position and take breaks if you need to.
- Lift your pen between each stroke as you’re practicing the letterforms.
- Adjust your page and posture from time to time.
- Don’t forget to slow down! I know I’ve already said it. Throwing it at ya one more time, because I know we tend to forget
