In case you’re new around here, this idea came after I went back to the bullet journal system. I wanted to see all the ways that I can apply my lettering skills into my bullet journal. Here are the ones I’ve done so far:ย

SUPPLIES I RECOMMEND FOR THIS “5 WAYS TO LETTER DECEMBER”

FREE PRACTICE WORKSHEET

These are the supplies I recommend to use with any of my worksheets:

  • Paper.ย I recommendย HP Premium 32 Paperย because of its higher quality, which is excellent for your brush pens. Or you can also useย tracing paperย and put it on to of your worksheet to practice. This way, you only need to print the sheet once and still practice several times.ย You can use any printer paper if you are using a regular pen. I ONLY recommendย regular paperย if you are doingย Faux Calligraphy.

Regular printer paperย can shorten the life of your brush pens.ย

CALLIGRAPHY PRACTICE TIPS

As youโ€™re using this calligraphy practice worksheet, keep in mind the tips below. These tips will make you make the most out of your practice. For more practice tips for beginners, check out this blog postย andย this other post will be helpful too.

  1. SUPER IMPORTANT:ย Slow down!ย Take your time when youโ€™re practicing your calligraphy. Doing calligraphy is not meant to be fast. Going slow will help you get better letter forms and sharper strokes.
  2. Date your worksheets!ย This is a great way to see your improvement. Refer back to your older sheets often. Especially when you start to get into the comparison trap or when you think you havenโ€™t improved in your calligraphy journey. We are our worst critics! And often forget to give us grace and celebrate our accomplishments, no matter how small they are.
  3. Use light pressure for the upstrokesย (when youโ€™re moving the pen upwards) andย heavy pressure for the downstrokesย (when youโ€™re moving the pen upwards).
  4. Find a comfortable position and take breaks if you need to.
  5. Lift your pen between each strokeย as youโ€™re practicing the letterforms.
  6. Adjust your page and posture from time to time.
  7. Donโ€™t forget to slow down! I know Iโ€™ve already said it. Throwing it at ya one more time, because I know we tend to forgetย  ????
